What fits in a 14ft trailer

Roughly six pickup beds, in one drop

A standard 14ft dump trailer holds 14–16 cubic yards. For heavy material the weight limit hits first, so here is what a single load actually looks like on a DFW job.

  • Roofing shingles

    20–25 squares

A typical 2,000 sq ft single-layer tear-off fits in one load. Two layers, plan on two.

  • Concrete & brick

    4–5 cubic yards

Fill to about a third of the box. Weight, not volume, is the limit on clean rubble.

  • Brush & yard waste

    14–16 cubic yards

Light and bulky — you'll run out of space long before you run out of weight.

  • Furniture & household

    A 3-bedroom cleanout

Couches, mattresses, dressers, boxes. Break down what you can and it goes further.

  • Remodel debris

    Kitchen + one bath

Cabinets, drywall, tile, subfloor, trim, and packaging from the new material.

  • Dirt & sod

    3–4 cubic yards

Wet DFW clay is brutally heavy. Keep it shallow and spread flat over the axles.

Trailer vs. roll-off

Which one you actually want

Most DFW homeowners default to a roll-off dumpster because it's the thing they've heard of. For jobs under a week, a dump trailer is cheaper, faster to get, and far kinder to your concrete.

Common questions

Before you book

All 15 questions →
How much does a dump trailer rental cost in DFW?
Expect $150–200 for a 24-hour rental of a 14ft dump trailer, around $800 for a full week, and about $1,600 for a month. Delivery and pickup inside the standard DFW service area are included in those numbers. Overweight loads, out-of-area delivery, and prohibited-material sorting are the usual extras.
How long can I keep the trailer?
Anywhere from 24 hours to a month or longer. The 24-hour window is the most popular for homeowners; contractors typically take the weekly or monthly rate. Extensions are billed pro-rata at the daily rate — just call before the pickup window rather than after.
Do you deliver, or do I have to tow it myself?
Delivery and pickup are standard. A driver drops the trailer where you point, positions it for loading, and hauls it away when you are done. If you have a 3/4-ton truck and a 2-5/16" ball you can pick it up yourself, and some providers discount for that.
What can't I put in a dump trailer?
No tires, no lead-acid or lithium batteries, no liquid paint, no solvents, oils, fuels, or pool chemicals, no appliances containing refrigerant (fridges, freezers, window AC units), no asbestos, no medical waste, and no propane tanks. These are landfill-rejected and turn into a return trip plus a fee.
Do I need a permit to have a dump trailer at my house?
Not on private property. If the trailer sits on your driveway or your own lot, no permit is required anywhere in the DFW metroplex. If it has to sit in a public street or a right-of-way, most cities — Dallas and Fort Worth included — require a temporary obstruction permit, and HOAs often have their own rules.
